Description

For over a decade, our Local Live series, hosted by the exceptionally talented singer-songwriter Jay Brown, has been a cornerstone of our local music scene. Jay’s unmatched versatility and passion for music shine as he brings together the finest local talent for an evening of truly unforgettable performances.  Each event is a unique blend of seasoned professionals and local musicians who play at a pro level. What begins as individual performances gradually transforms into a collaborative, magical experience as the artists come together to create something special. Don’t miss out on the magic!

Tom Keever a talented songwriter from the mountains of North Carolina, has been honing his writing craft for decades. Steeped in the traditions of mountain and folk music, his singable melodies and heart-tugging lyrics are wrapped around our common experiences. Tom’s finger style guitar work and distinct voice give him a unique and compelling style.

“I’ve always loved words and the art and craft of songwriting. It’s been my companion for many years. Hopefully, for many more to come. Welcome to my world.”

In a live setting, Old Sap often performs as a stripped-down folk trio. The banjo sets the groove while the electric guitar and fiddle swarm and swoon around it. Next comes the stomp of the foot, like a freight train crossing an old steel bridge. Harmonies streak across the sky, prayers sent up millennia ago now swooping into the modern day. In a direct and energetic style, Old Sap stretches out a blanket and beckons listeners to lay down their troubles, lose their shoes, and dance around in the grass. It’s more sound than people expect from a few simple elements—a sound that’s surprising, familiar, modern and timeless all at once. Old Sap is a poet from Chicago, who rambled out to Montana, cut a banjo from a tamarack, strings across the country, foot like a freight train, voice rushing down over lush Appalachia, sings a thrush tune through the rush hour and into your long-forgotten prairie dreams. Folk. Folk Rock. Americana.
