“Amazing Grace,” “God is a God” and many more
Terriq Deontri received his masters at the University of Maryland Opera Studio. Upon
graduating, he performed in his first professional engagement as Le Remendado in Bizet’s
Carmen with the Washington Opera Society. Deontri attended Pittsburgh Festival Opera where
he premiered as Victor in the critically acclaimed, New York Festival award winning opera A
Gathering of Sons. Other notable roles include Andy in Treemonisha, Walter in American
Apollo, Sam Kaplin in Street Scene, Chevalier de la Force in Dialogues des Carmélites, Tito in
La clemenza di Tito, Don Ottavio in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Tony in West Side Story
Bishop/Death/Sea Captain in The Young King, and Venditore di Canzonette in Puccini’s Il
tabarro. While at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, Terriq was a winner of the
concerto competition with his rendition of ‘Sound an Alarm’ from Handel’s Judas Maccabeus.
