Join AmiciMusic for a toe-tapping afternoon of music entitled “JEWISH JAZZ.” Pianist and Artistic Director Daniel Weiser will be joined by clarinetist Seth Kibel, an acclaimed jazz and Klezmer clarinetist from Baltimore as they highlight the intriguing interconnections between Klezmer music and American Jazz. This is a story of how Eastern European Jewish immigrants connected in New York City with the Great Migration of African-Americans from the South. This mixing and interconnection of the Klezmer tradition and the Ragtime/Blues idiom would help produce a truly great American sound known as Jazz in the 1920s and 1930s. Kibel and Weiser will perform music by Lev Kogan, Bela Kovacs, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw and many more. It’s a fascinating historical show that is also highly relevant in this time when immigrants are being threatened with deportation. You won’t want to miss it!
