The Black Mountain Blues Society and White Horse Black Mountain present the Dark City Blues Jam, a twice-monthly celebration of blues, soul, grit, and community.
We invite musicians and music lovers alike to experience the raw energy of live blues in the heart of the Blue Ridge. 1st and 3rd Tuesdays hosted by Peggy Ratusz and Bill Mattocks on 3rd Tues.
Whether you are a seasoned player looking to sit in with a powerhouse house band or a fan ready to soak up the atmosphere, the Dark City Blues Jam offers an authentic, high-energy environment for all. We want to hear what you’ve got!
Signing up to play is simple: Sign-Up Sheet: The list opens at the venue starting at 6:30 PM.
The Process: Musicians are encouraged to arrive early to secure a slot. You can sign up as an individual or a partial group. SIgn ups end 10 min before showtime. What to Bring: Bring your own instrument (guitars, harps, horns, etc.).
Peggy Ratusz is one of Western North Carolina’s most powerful and respected voices in the blues. A two-time Asheville Music Award winner for Best Blues Vocalist, and is known for her soulful delivery, fearless storytelling, and deep connection to the roots of American music.
Her style blends classic blues, jazz, and R&B with a modern edge—always anchored by emotion, groove, and authenticity. Whether she’s fronting a full band or commanding the stage in an intimate setting, Peggy brings a magnetic presence that pulls audiences right into the heart of every song.
Based in Asheville and beloved throughout the region, Peggy has performed across the Southeast and beyond, sharing stages with nationally recognized artists while staying deeply connected to her local music community. Her performances are equal parts grit and grace—raw, real, and unforgettable.
