Gypsy Reverie is an Asheville-based acoustic ensemble whose gypsy jazz and international café music turns an ordinary evening into a night in a candlelit café halfway across the world. Led by violinist Joseph Arnold – a fifteen-year veteran of the Hot Club of Philadelphia and an award-winning author – the band pairs virtuosic string playing with the romance and warmth of the world’s great café traditions. Gypsy Reverie recently sold out two nights of its “Evening in Lisbon” series at Asheville’s Battery Park Book Exchange.

We’d structure the evening as a musical journey through different cities and eras – 1930s Paris, a Lisbon fado house, a New Orleans jazz club, a Buenos Aires tango bar. I introduce each destination briefly, just a sentence or two about the music and where it comes from, so the audience has a story to follow and something to talk about afterward. It turns a concert into an experience – an ordinary evening becomes a night in a candlelit café halfway across the world.
