Your host Dr Bill Bares is a Pianist, composer, scholar, and educator. He received his Ph.D in ethnomusicology from Harvard University in 2009. He taught at Harvard, Brown, Berklee College of Music, and the New England Conservatory before taking a job as professor of music and co-director of jazz studies at UNC Asheville.

UNCA Songwriters Night

Since it took shape in 2019, the UNCA Songwriters Ensemble and its touring counterpart, Songwriters X, have become staples of the UNC Asheville Music Department’s ensemble offerings. The talented students in these collaborative ensembles perform each other’s original songs written in, or influenced by, any music genre. They play acoustic, electric and electronic instruments, as well as MIDI controllers, which are incorporated into the musical performances as the music requires. The group has produced alumni who have become local favorites and touring sensations. Come be a part of this special evening incorporating students, alums and supporters of a growing family of UNC Asheville Songwriters.
