Don’t miss this last opportunity to hear the musical voices of your favorite dead poets sung in perfect harmony. Imagine the voices of long-deceased classic poets of yore rising up from the grave, stomping their iambic feet, with a lyrical wiggle in their cool haiku hips. The Dead Poets poetry band will resurrect Shakespeare, Dickinson, Plath, Poe, Rumi, Hughes, Wordsworth, Blake, and the whole damn canon. The Dead Poets first took to the stage in the 1990s at the now-legendary Green Door performance venue at the epicenter of the Asheville Renaissance. Their mission: Use musical interpretation to bring new life to the words of a few classic poets . . . who happen to be dead. A guitar, a standup bass, a kickdrum, and a snare formed the instrumental bed for the tight, three-part harmonies of Alex Alford, Tom Tracy, and Allan Wolf. They have been sharing their unique musico-poetic approach with poetry-loving audiences ever since.
Now, after three lyrical decades of toe-tapping poetry tunes, The Dead Poets are coming together for one final show at White Horse in Black Mountain, North Carolina. Presenting highlights From their three albums and a few new surprises, Alex, Tom, and Allan will be dedicating this special performance to the resilient people of Western North Carolina affected by hurricane Helene.
